Mass Deportations in Florida? An Overview of Trump’s Plans for Immigration Policy

Immigration8

The next four years are likely to involve sweeping changes to US immigration policy. A key issue for many voters in 2024 was immigration, and President-Elect Trump has made it clear that he plans to take immigration law in a very different direction compared to the previous four years. One issue that many are currently discussing is the possibility of “mass deportations” in Palm Beach County. What might that look like? What will the next four years look like in terms of immigration policy?

Will I Be Deported Under the New US Immigration Policy?

President-Elect Trump has vowed to carry out the “largest deportation operation in American history.” According to his official website, his immigration policy consists of six elements:

  • Secure the border
  • Enforce immigration laws
  • Begin largest deportation program in American history
  • Strict vetting
  • Stop sanctuary cities
  • Ensure our legal immigration system puts American workers first

Points two and three are more relevant to those concerned about deportation. Point two involves “strengthening ICE” and “increasing penalties” for those who enter the country illegally or overstay their visas. It is not clear what these penalties might be, but deportation is certainly a possibility.

Another change is the invocation of the Alien Enemies Act, which the new administration will reportedly use to target gangs, drug dealers, cartel members, and similar people. In other words, you are much more likely to face deportation if you have a criminal record in the United States. Although this is nothing new, convicts may face faster and more consistent deportation under the new immigration.

Point three of Trump’s immigration platform involves the much-discussed “mass deportation” plan. While this is perhaps the most notable aspect of the platform, it is also one of the vaguest. The administration only provides a few short sentences to explain how this might work, including the phrase “sending illegal aliens back home and removing those who have violated our laws.”

Some have dismissed this plan as unrealistic, arguing that it will cost many billions of dollars. Whatever the case may be, it is safe to say that deportation will become more common and likely after the recent presidential election result.

What Is Deportation Defense?

Deportation defense is a legal process in which migrants can attempt to remain in the country. Even though you might face deportation, you can still appeal this decision and argue your case in court. With the right strategy, you can challenge the reasons for your deportation.
