Which Is the Easiest Way to Enter the United States?

Immig4

Those who wish to settle in the United States have many options. However, these options depend on the unique circumstances of each migrant. Some live in faraway countries – and a plane might be the only option. Others live in areas where boat access could be more feasible. Of course, there is always the option to simply cross the land border. But even then, settlers have to decide whether to cross the northern or southern border. In addition, the decision depends on whether you have a valid visa to enter the United States legally. Ultimately, this is something you might want to discuss with a Palm Beach County immigration lawyer.

A Growing Number of Migrants Are Choosing the Northern Border

Although one can hardly describe this method as “easy,” a growing number of migrants are choosing the northern Canadian border as their method of entry. A recent report from NPR highlights just how common this has become – especially near New York. Instead of taking the treacherous Darien Gap or the deserts of Mexico, migrants can take a relatively short walk through the forests of eastern Canada before reaching New York State.

In September of 2024, U.S. Customs and Border Protection reported a “record number” of encounters with migrants on the Canadian border. Thousands of migrants are sweeping across the border, representing an exponential increase compared to just two years prior. Even Canadian Border Services officials agree that this is an unsustainable problem, despite Canada’s famously laissez-faire attitude toward immigration.

On the other side of the border, taxi drivers wait to ferry migrants to New York – often demanding high fees for the long drive down the highway. Many of these taxi drivers are also migrants who crossed into the United States illegally. Many Americans believe that Canada is not doing enough to screen illegal immigrants.

In Florida, Migrants Arrive by Boat

On the opposite end of the country, other migrants are arriving by boat. In June of 2024, a boat carrying over 100 Haitian migrants arrived in the lower Florida Keys. This has become a common scene in Florida, with many other boats arriving sporadically throughout recent years and months.

Unlike many other States, Florida lacks a border with another country. However, it is incredibly close to Cuba, the Bahamas, and many other Caribbean countries.

Entering Legally Makes the Most Sense

At the end of the day, entering the country illegally is not necessary – especially if you work with an experienced immigration lawyer in Florida. These legal professionals can help you assess various green card options – and you may receive permission to enter the country sooner than you thought possible.
